Yes, the app will show your Outlook/Exchange calendars, as long as you have them configured on your iPhone.
The app won’t read your Outlook calendar information directly from Microsoft’s Outlook mobile app setup, so the way you would set this up is by going to Settings > Calendar > Accounts, and adding your existing Microsoft Exchange account there.
Once the account is added, you will get options to enable various parts of Exchange – such as email, contacts, etc. – to be accessible to iOS globally (in native Mail, Calendar, Contacts, etc).
However, there’s no need to turn them all on (unless you want to) – you only need to turn the Calendars toggle on for Exchange account and that’s it.
This way, your Outlook calendar will become available to iOS and will be displayed in TwinOutlook alongside all the other calendars you have.
Widgets are very special elements of iOS, and in order to keep your battery life, as well as to prevent run-away widget extensions, iOS only allows to update widget information about once per 15-20 minutes.
This can differ depending on whether a widget’s locations and application usage. For example, widgets located on the main screen, are getting more chances to update. In addition, if you use an app that provides the widget often, that widget’s updates get prioritized by the system.
What that means for you is if you would like for widget to be as up-to-date as possible, we recommend you to place it on your device’s first screen. And why wouldn’t you do that? Right? 🙂
That said, TwinOutlook’s widget is set to be updated once every 20 minutes. What it means is that during that update, the widget read in all of the current information you have in calendar and reminders, and builds a timeline of what is supposed to happen to them in next 20 minutes (calendar events starting, finishing, etc).
If any new calendar event or reminder is added between these updates, the widget won’t show them until next OS-managed refresh.
However! If you just launch the TwinOutlook main app (or tap on a widget) – it’ll be updated with the latest information automatically!
No, unfortunately that’s not possible. This is all managed by the operating system.
Actually, there’s one thing that can be done to make widget update more often – pretty much as often as you’d like – but that would require external servers, pushing requests to the widget to update. We might implement this feature if there are enough people to request it. However, please note that it’ll likely become a subscription-based functionality, due to costs associated with server maintenance.
Nope. Not currently. But that could be something that can be added in the future.
There are a few reasons why a widget might not get updated on a regular basis.
Below are a few of them:
- System might not update widgets if you have low-power mode activated. Just keep your device charged and you should normally be good. The is probably, by far, the most common reason
- You might not be using the app often enough. Not joking – the system actually tried to track how much any of the widgets and related app are looked onto, or used. Less used widgets/apps get less refresh allowances, which would result in sparser updated. You can place the widget on the main screen, or you could click it sometimes – so the system would figure out that this one is important for you, and act accordingly.
